After 2 years of productive research in PROTECT, Dr. Long Chen is moving to the industry, where he is now a scientist at STC Biologics Inc. In his new role, he will be responsible for process and assay development, primarily focusing on pharmaceutical drugs within the startup company, with the goal to develop as a Director for drug development in the future.

Long started with PROTECT as a postdoc two years ago under the mentorship of Project 5 Leader Akram Alshawabkeh. He was promoted shortly after to Associate Research Scientist due to his impressive work ethic, leadership, and accomplishments.

Long’s work has focused on developing new methods for water treatment and coupling toxic chemical removal with disinfection. In particular, Long employed electrochemistry to produce hydroxyl radical or sulfate radical to break down toxic compounds or kill water pathogens. The goal of Long’s research is to develop green and low-cost water treatment techniques that could be used in undeveloped areas. So far, Long has published a book chapter and two peer-reviewed journal papers, with several more papers in the submission process; his work aims to advance the field of electrochemical water treatment.

Congratulations Long and best wishes for a successful career!
